Our 2 days program will give you a very deep understanding of Shanghai, its history and its culture. The first day of the tour will start with a visit to the Jade Buddha Temple, a Buddhist temple famous for two vivid Jade Buddha statues. Don't miss the opportunity to admire and feed the beautiful Koi fish in the temple pond.
After the temple we'll move to one of the most famous site in Shanghai, the Old Town area, visiting splendid Old Town Bazaar. The stroll through the Bazaar features also the magnificent Zigzagging Bridge, which will lead you to the Yu Yuan Garden, Yu Yuan Garden is the largest and most known among the historic gardens of Shanghai (Built in 1559). The bazaar is a market with lots of small shops, vendors selling souvenirs, hand-made crafts, folk crafts and packed snacks.
The tour continues in Xintiandi, an area composed of restored traditional "stone gate" (Shikumen) houses on narrow alleys, a modern shopping mall with a cinema complex, and some adjoining houses which now serve as book stores, cafes and restaurants. Most of the cafes and restaurants feature both indoor and outdoor seats. The Stone Gate House Museum will give you the opportunity to visit the interiors and experience the life in the "Stone Gate" house.
When it comes to lunch, Xintiandi is the place to be, with high class restaurants and dim sum places.
After lunch we will visit the Local Flower & Bird Market, great places to get to know some key aspects of local life, followed by the Bund Area, among the top ten Shanghai attractions. Just like a gallery of international architecture, the Bund features many historic European style buildings. It's the showcase of the city's colonial past and its transformation in the modern era. We will visit the original HSBC bank and the Peace hotel including the history gallery. We will then cross the street and take the Ferry towards the last site of the day through the Huangpu River: Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone, with its collection of skyscrapers famous around the world.
The second day of the tour will start in the Local Park of Fuxing in the Former French Concession Area. You will get an idea of the morning activities of the Shanghai locals, experience the lifestyle and stroll around the villas and mansions area of the old French concession. You will then be able to admire an Old Style Shanghai Neighborhood area with Shikumen architecture and a Local Fresh Market (Wet Market). Before lunch we'll reserve some time to appreciate folk art and craft in the Little White House, a French mansion transformed into a museum and cultural center.
The Little White House is a spectacular mansion which was one of the most opulent houses in former French Concession. It was home to a high-ranking official of the French Municipality at that time. Now it is Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum and that will be our last stop before lunch. We'll stop at one of the most popular local restaurant in Shanghai or any other place of your liking.
